Artista dell’armonica a bocca cromatica (da me talvolta indicata col neologismo “chromarmonica”) , Stanley Harper è uno tra i pochi eccezionali esempi da imitare in molteplici generi musicali e nel jazz in particolare, per brillante pulizia di suono, rapidità ed elegante interpretazione. Tecnica ed arte si sposano in lui prodigiosamente. Esemplari sono le sue “Novelettes”, edite da EUCLED nel 2009.

La musica classica viene da lui mirabilmente riprodotta ed esaltata per armonica cromatica. Bach e Mozart, tra i tanti compositori, sono quelli in cui Stan dà il meglio di sè e che gli valsero l’incondizionata ammirazione di un eccelso armonicista classico quale Willi Burger.

Noi offriamo all’ascoltatore un'esemplare antologia delle sue interpretazioni del
compositore e trascrittore Fritz Kreisler (Vienna 2.2.1875 / New York 29.1.1962).
Kreisler fu sublime violinista, di eccentrico talento, anche come pittore. Esercitò perfino la professione di medico. Ma la musica fu il suo amore più travolgente. Nei primi anni del ventesimo secolo fu ammirato in molte applauditissime tournées negli USA, ove nel 1943 chiese ed ottenne la cittadinanza.

Stan esegue composizioni originali di Kreisler (Liebesfreud, Liebesleid, Tambourin chinois, Schön Rosmarin, Caprice viennois, Menuet nello stile Porpora (erroneamente attribuito a N. Porpora), Tempo di minuetto nello stile di Pugnani (erroneamente attribuito a G. Pugnani), nonché trascrizioni (Rondino, su tema di Beethoven), The Old Refrain (J. Braun), Danza española (dall’opera “La vida breve”, M. De Falla), The Londonderry Air, Gavotte in Mi Maggiore (J.S.Bach), Hymn to the Sun (dall’opera “Le coq d’Or” di Rimsky-Korsakov), Tango in Re Maggiore (Isaac Albéniz).

STAN HARPER AND CLASSICAL MUSIC

Stanley Harper’s artistry is exceptional among those musicians performing on the chromatic harmonica (for which I have coined the new term “chromarmonica”). His renditions in classical music and Jazz are superb. He has a clean, fast sound; his interpretations are elegant. Stan’s music is an ideal fusion of both art and science. See, for example, “Novelettes” by Stan Harper, published by EUCLED in 2009.

Mr. Harper is equally outstanding when playing Bach & Mozart, among other great composers. He earned the admiration of Willi Burger, a well-known classical performer in his own right (also on the chromatic harmonica). The effect of Harper’s playing, with his virtuoso skill, actually enhances the classical repertoire.

On this CD, EUCLED offers the listener a full anthology of Stan Harper performing Fritz Kreisler’s: music arranged and written by Mr. Kreisler. Fritz Kreisler was a man of many talents: an excellent violinist, a painter, a physician. Music, however, was his primary passion. Early in the 20^th century, he made many successful tours in the U.S., where he was greatly admired. He became a U.S. citizen in 1943. Stan Harper plays original compositions by Kreisler (Liebesfreud, Liebesleid, Tambourin Chinois, Schön Rosmarin, Caprice Viennois, Menuet in the style of Porpora (incorrectly attributed to N. Porpora), Time Minuet in the style of Pugnani (wrongly attributed to G. Pugnani ) and arrangements (Rondino, arr. on a theme by Beethoven), The Old Refrain (J. Braun), Spanish Dance (from the opera "La vida breve", M. De Falla), The Londonderry Air, Gavotte in E Major (J.S. Bach), Hymn to the Sun (from the opera "Le coq d'Or", Rimsky-Korsakov), Tango in D major (Isaac Albéniz).
